Hamburg Precision Mechanics Design Engineer (f/m/d)

The Position

• Contribute to the development, realization, and commissioning of ultra-precision mechanical systems for the new phase of the XFELO project
• Perform computer-aided engineering tasks, including concept development, detailed mechanical design, structural and thermal assessment, and design optimization of mechanical components and assemblies
• Take responsibility for the production and procurement of mechanical components, as well as for the assembly, testing, and installation of the designed mechanical systems
• Participate in shift work in the control room during experimental testing and commissioning of XFELO mechanical systems with beam
• Analyze technical experimental data, document results, and contribute to publications, internal reports, and technical notes.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in mechanical engineering, applied physics, or an equivalent discipline
• Initial experience in mechanical design, preferably in a scientific, research, or other high-technology environment
• Understanding of mechanism design, structural mechanics, and thermal aspects relevant to precision mechanical systems; familiarity with UHV requirements is an advantage
• Ability to understand technical requirements, develop design concepts, and propose feasible mechanical solutions
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, combined with creativity, motivation, and a hands-on approach
• Experience with 3D CAD modeling and the preparation of engineering drawings; experience with Siemens NX would be beneficial
• Experience with numerical simulation and FEA tools such as Ansys and/or COMSOL
• Good written and spoken English and the ability to work successfully in an international and interdisciplinary team
