European XFEL is an international non-profit company located in the Hamburg area in Germany. It operates a 3.4 km-long X-ray laser, which produces X-rays of unique quality for studies in physics, chemistry, the life sciences, materials research and other disciplines. The diverse scientific facilities at European XFEL enable scientists from across the globe to carry out a wide range of experimental techniques.
For our Sample Environment and Characterisation group we are looking for a
The Position
- Develop and operate our photoelectron spectroscopy setup using a spherical analyser
- Angular resolved photoelectron spectroscopy (ARPES)
- Photo electron emission microscopy (PEEM)
- Support internal and external users of the European XFEL in sample preparation and characterization techniques
- Scanning electron microscopy
- Focussed ion beam milling and deposition
- Optical microscopy and other lab-bases sample characterization methods
- Collaborate in scientific projects involving sample characterization
- Occasionally participate in shift work in order to facilitate user experiments.
Requirements
- PhD or equivalent degree in Physics or Chemistry, or in a related field
- Expert in photoelectron spectroscopy
- Experience in electron microscopy
- Willingness to perform shift work
- Motivation to work in diverse, international team of scientist, engineers and technicians
